Royersford, Pennsylvania

Royersford is a borough located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, 32 miles (51 km) northwest of Philadelphia, on the Schuylkill River. Early in the twentieth century, it had extensive stove and brass factories, glass and bottle works, embroidery and silk mills, a dye and bleaching plant, bridge works, and manufactories of bricks, gas meters, stockings, shirts, shafting parts, wagons, agricultural implements, etc. The population stood at 2,607 people in 1900, and at 3,073 in 1910. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 4,246. The borough was formed from the southeastern corner of Limerick Township in 1879. Royersford Borough is a member of the Spring-Ford Area School District.

Geography

Royersford is located at 40°11'7" North, 75°32'16" West (40.185239, -75.537648)GR1. The borough lies on the northern banks of the Schuylkill River.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.0 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.88% water.

Demographics

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there are 4,246 people, 1,928 households, and 1,066 families residing in the borough. The population density is 2,075.2/km² (5,400.8/mi²). There are 2,039 housing units at an average density of 996.5/km² (2,593.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 95.97% White, 1.95% African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.64% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.28% from other races, and 0.92% from two or more races. 1.18% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,928 households out of which 26.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.1% are married couples living together, 10.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 44.7% are non-families. 38.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.20 and the average family size is 2.96.

In the borough the population is spread out with 22.8% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 32.5% from 25 to 44, 21.3% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.4 males.

The median income for a household in the borough is $39,442, and the median income for a family is $55,579. Males have a median income of $36,189 versus $28,689 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $21,314. 2.7% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 6.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
