Neutral point of view

From Open Encyclopedia

For the Wikipedia policy concerning this topic, see Wikipedia:Neutral point of view.

Neutral point of view, as a central policy of Wikipedia, is based on the conception of objectivity.

In writing, a neutral point of view is a tone that try to be free from bias. It is generally considered desirable for journalistic, encyclopedic, historic and scientific writings.

In Wikipedia context, neutral point of view (NPOV) is taken to mean a neutral description of the facts, including the fact that various points of view exist, rather than a single universal point of view. This policy has been the source of some controversy, and disagreement with this has lead to the creation of Wikinfo with its sympathetic point of view.

The possibility of a complete objectivity in all those fields has been debated. See objectivity for further debate.
