Geography
Mosbach is situated south of the Odenwald mountains at a level of 134-354m at the Neckar and Elz junction. The city is part of the resort Naturpark Neckartal-Odenwald and belongs to the UNESCO 'Geopark Bergstraße-Odenwald'.
History
Mosbach developed around the Benedictine monastery "Monasterium Mosabach". The first written document dates back to the 9th century. In 1241 rights and privileges had been attributed as an Imperial free city. These right were lost in 1362 when Mosbach became part of the Electoral Palatinate (German 'Kurpfalz'). In the 15th century Mosbach became the recidence of count palatine Otto I. and Otto II. After the cancellation of the Mosbach principality in 1499 the city was the capital of the administrative district ‘Oberamt Mosbach’ in the Kurpfalz. In 1806 the city was made part of Baden Germany.
